Sustainable Skills for Tomorrow is an employment and training program that helps participants build the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to pursue careers in Canada’s growing green economy.
Bridges Niagara is proud to be a regional delivery partner in the Green Buildings and Retrofits Training Project, a national initiative funded through the Sustainable Jobs Training Fund (SJTF). Running through March 31, 2028, this project is one of only eight selected across Canada to
support workforce readiness in low-carbon industries.
As a project partner, Bridges Niagara works to:
- Increase access to training and employment opportunities in low-carbon sectors.
- Support equity-deserving groups, including Indigenous Peoples, women, newcomers to Canada (five years or less), persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.
- Foster employer participation and cross-provincial collaboration
What Bridges Niagara Provides
As a regional delivery partner, Bridges Niagara offers participants:
- Support to co-create an individualized career plan.
- Structured peer learning sessions supported by a Career Guide.
- Workshops and networking opportunities that foster professional growth.
- Wraparound supports to help participants succeed throughout the program.
- Ongoing guidance from our Employment & Skills Development team.
Program Highlights
Eligible participants will receive:
- Five weeks of asynchronous, instructor-supported micro-credential training focused on green buildings and retrofits.
- A 3 to 4-week unpaid work placement with an employer in a related field.
- Integrated employment supports, including connections with a Career Guide and Job Developer.
- Additional supports, where available and as appropriate, such as transportation assistance, dependent care assistance, and employer wage subsidies.
Through Sustainable Skills for Tomorrow, participants gain practical training, industry knowledge, and personalized employment support to prepare for opportunities in Canada’s evolving sustainable workforce.
